Fool me twice – shame on you

Shame on you...

Shame on you...

There is an old expression that says “fool me once, shame on you – fool me twice shame on me.”

At first it seems that Electronic Arts (EA) is trying to pull the wool over our collective eyes again, when I read the following “protest” over the upcoming Dante’s Inferno game. To those unenlightened few, the game is EA’s take on the famous part of the trilogy by master epic poet Dante – their version of a little romp through Hell.  In the past we have seen a fake protest by a “religious group” (actors hired by EA)  outside this year’s E3.  After that they launched in to their little “sexually molest a ‘booth babe’” contest and later said “But it was all a joke…” after the protests arose.  Now gamepolitics.com is reporting that a group called the “International Nanny Association” (INA) is protesting an achievement that is to be part of the supposedly infamous game called the “bad nanny” achievement. Here is a quote from the INA via Gamepolitics.com:

“INA is opposed to video games that promote and encourage players to “kill” babies, even in fantasy play. It is our opinion that this type of play may promote violence towards children. The name of the trophy or achievement, “Bad Nanny,” is offensive to our association in that we strive to promote and educate the public regarding the selfless work nannies do to support families by providing quality in-home child care.” – International Nanny Association.

Quite frankly, the website for the INA looks both legitimate and, I might point out, beyond the professional abilities of the work by the Dante’s Inferno Marketing whores…oops…team that I have seen so far.

Yes, I am fully aware that I am buying in to the whole “you can’t buy publicity like this ploy” by writing about it.  Still, whether this is another “Marketing scheme” or the real thing this time, consider what the achievement is for…here is another quote:

“… the “Bad Nanny” achievement is designed to reward players who slaughter ‘a yet undetermined number of unbaptized infants.’” – INA via Gamepolitics.com

All things considered, whether the protest is real or not, let me voice my opinion that the achievement and the individual or individuals that thought of the concept leave a taste in my mouth like a truck load of crap.

 See you online,

Is this crap ever going to end? By the time this is over, no one in their right mind will ever buy this game.
