While one could install it in a car, it wouldn't do much good if the cause of death was a crash. Conversely, the system is perfect for pod pilots, because they're already attached to their neural interfaces within the pod and the fluid within the pod acts as a shock absorber. Also, the brain-frying copying process is triggered if the hull of the pod is breached. Because messing with an elaborate life-support system is fatal anyway, there's no chance of the system activating when the user doesn't want it to.
