Becoming Klingon…part 2

stopvp3a

Time for the nitty gritty. Time to get out there and complete the mission.

SPOILER WARNING – this will tell you exactly what happens in the key mission.

Anyone who has ever watched Star Trek knows the phrase “red shirt”.  Since the early days of the series it’s always the security personnel in the red shirt that takes it in the chin…and it is usually the Klingon who gives it to him. So you say you want to play a Klingon instead of a red shirt Feddy?

 Here’s how.

The system is set so that the Klingon Warrior unlocks at Lieutenant level 6 or upon completion of a quest entitled “Stop the Signal”. I have heard of the quest being completed as early as level 4 – as for myself I completed it at level 5, after having completed the quests at Starbase 24.

The mission entitled “Stopping the Signal” is given by Admiral Quinn. When you are ready to  complete the mission (i.e. have learned the game as there is no “Klingon” tutorial) hail Admiral Quinn. It doesn’t matter where you are, Space Dock, or Sector Space, all you have to do is hail Starfleet (see picture above).

The Admiral will send you on your way to the Bomari System located on the far edge of Sector Space after you leave the Sol System.  Open your map, find the Bomari System and tell your helmsman to plot a course.  When you near the system you will be given an option to enter the system.

You will be sent there to scan a satellite that is relaying a signal. You won’t have to look too far. When I warped in it was directly in front of me.  Upon entering the system one of your bridge officers will advise you to hide near a an asteroid to scan – take the officer’s advice!  The satellite/relay will be guarded. Note that the more people who are working on this mission at once, the  more ships will be guarding the relay and the harder this part will be.  Because of this factor I found it easier to complete the quest solo than with a group. Upon warping into the system I slowly approached the relay. When I neared it I stopped next to an asteroid just within scanning range – this way I didn’t have to fight the Klingon ships guarding the relay at all. Upon finishing the scan one of your bridge officers will tell you that it is necessary to warp to Bomari II.

Upon arrival in the system you will be told by your bridge officer that it is necessary to destroy four teleporter inhibitors before beaming down to the relay station. Be aware that they will be guarded!

stopvp3e2

Shortly after beaming down to the relay station a member of your bridge crew will tell you that a Klingon vessel has entered the same system.   They will beam down to the station after you and you will have to fight your way through them.  The task at hand is to set four bombs (see location below).  You will have to fight room to room to find the location for each bomb (one per room).

This is about the time that a member of your bridge crew informs you that Star Fleet will want to know where the signal was being relayed. In order to do this you will have to download information from the main computer found in the last room. It will be guarded, of course (see below). After downloading information from the main computer terminal I had to once again fight Klingons who stormed the room.

Once the battle is over you will be told by a member of your bridge crew that an Undine dreadnaught (a whopping big ship…see below) has entered the system. The Undine, you will know if you assisted the Vulcan Ambassador in returning items to a Vulcan Monastery, are shape shifters.  IMPORTANT NOTE:  Just before beaming up to my ship I had to go afk for awhile and timed out. At first I thought I would have to complete the mission over again.  All I had to do, upon finding myself back out in sector space, was click a small button on the lower right hand corner of my screen to continue the mission.

stopvp3h

When you beam up to your ship you will find that the Klingons are already battling the dreadnaught. As odd as it may seem to you dyed in the wool feddies you are supposed to help the Klingons defeat the Undine Dreadnaught. In return for behaving honorably the Klingons will let you live…for now. Once you exit the system you will find that the Klingon Warrior has been unlocked. All you have to do is log out and back in again and you will have the option to create your Klingon Warrior.

That’s all there is to it – Qapla!
